MRC · Graphics card repair

Graphics card repair starts with a diagnosis and quote.

Tell us about your desktop graphics card. We review your request for free to see if we can take the job. Once a card we have agreed to work on arrives, we diagnose it and give you a quote before repairs begin.

Describe your GPUWe review your request for free. Diagnosis is a separate step.

01 / Faults

Problems we check

For cards we agree to take, we diagnose the fault before quoting repairs.

No display or no power

After checking that the card is safe to test, we look for shorts in its power circuits, damaged voltage regulators (VRMs), firmware faults, damaged connectors and failed components.

Display glitches and crashes

Distorted images, driver crashes and failures under load can come from the card’s memory (VRAM), GPU, power circuits, firmware, cooling or the computer itself.

Overheating and physical damage

We can check fans, heat-transfer materials, corrosion, circuit-board tracks and HDMI or DisplayPort damage when parts and access for testing are available.

02 / Graphics card repairs we offer

Graphics card repairs we offer

We work on supported NVIDIA GeForce and AMD Radeon desktop cards, including some workstation models. We don’t normally accept Intel graphics cards. Whether we can take it depends on its exact model, condition, available new or donor parts, and whether we can test it safely.

  • Finding electrical faults and power problems
  • Microsoldering and repairs to connectors and circuit-board tracks
  • Replacing voltage regulators (VRMs), memory and passive components, such as capacitors and resistors, when the diagnosis calls for it
  • BGA chip soldering work when the diagnosis and repair cost justify it
  • Cleaning, cooling maintenance, and function and stress tests where its condition allows

Before you send it

  • A symptom alone does not prove that a GPU core or memory chip is bad.
  • No repair attempt is guaranteed to fix it, including reballing or replacing components.
  • Laptop GPUs soldered to a motherboard, integrated graphics and unsupported cards need separate written acceptance.
  • Do not bake, heat-gun or ship it before we review its history and exact model.

03 / Process

How repairs work

  1. 1

    Tell us about your card

Send the manufacturer, exact model, symptoms and all repair or mining history so we can decide whether we can take the job.

  2. 2

    Wait for our reply

If we can take your card, we send drop-off or shipping instructions. Do not send it before we agree to take it.

  3. 3

    Diagnosis and quote

Once your card arrives, we diagnose it and give you a quote. No repair work begins without your approval.

  4. 4

    Repair, test and return

After you approve the quote, we carry out the agreed repair, test the card where its condition allows and arrange its return.

04 / GPU Certification

GPU Certification

GPU Certification checks a used desktop graphics card against its sales listing and the parts expected for that model. For $50 CAD plus tax, we inspect a card we have agreed to take and record its identifying details, model, memory, chips, circuit board, cooler and other required parts. This can reveal missing, substituted or changed chips and other differences found in deceptive online sales. We also try to boot the card in our shop’s test system. The report covers only what we observe. It does not certify that the card meets the manufacturer’s standards, establish ownership or the seller’s intent, or make a legal finding of fraud.

  • We record which chips and other required parts are present and compare them with the parts expected for that model
  • If the card boots, you receive a written test report listing the checks we completed and the results we observed
  • Not a repair diagnostic, authenticity or performance guarantee, warranty, or assurance that there are no hidden faults
  • Shipping, repair and parts cost extra; the certification fee is non-refundable once checking begins

05 / Start a repair

Tell us about your graphics card

Describe the problem so we can decide whether we can take the job. Reviewing your request is free and is separate from diagnosing the card. If we can take it, we send instructions, diagnose it after it arrives and quote the repair before starting work.
